The silence in the Budget!

THE budgets really hide more than they reveal. Often the Finance ministers have been consistently silent about certain important issues.

1. Job creation: All Finance Ministers gloat over employment generation but they have all been vague about the way they hope to pursue this goal. The IT job boom was in spite of the government. Do we have an employment policy?

2. Redistribution of wealth : Wealth creation is always talked about but hardly anything is done about social inequality and redistribution of wealth.

3. Agriculture tax: The deafening silence is about taxing agricultural income. It can’t be even talked about. The special position of the farmers is never mentioned.

4. Creation of poverty: While wealth creation is a fancy subject, nobody talks about the possibility of the poor suffering due to economic policies. Talking about poverty is not even fashionable now.

Will the silence be broken?
