NEW DELHI, JULY 31, 2017: IN her latest communication, the CBEC Chairperson has expressed serious concern over continuing litigation in the indirect taxes. She notes, "I have been apprised that around 93.27% of the Departmental cases identified for withdrawal from the High Courts and CESTAT have been withdrawn so far. However, I would like to insist that a concerted effort needs to be made to ensure that 100% of the cases identified for withdrawal are positively withdrawn within a precise timeframe."
She has also urged all Chief Commissioners and Commissioners to monitor disposal of pendency of Commissioner (Appeals) to ensure that all legacy cases are disposed off by 31st December, 2017. In this regard, a detailed guideline is being issued which should be followed strictly.
