Tale of Missing Gold from Customs Vault - CBI arrests Custodian

NEW DELHI, MAY 26, 2017: IN the mega gold theft case where more than 100 kg of gold was reported missing from the Customs vault at IGI Airport, New Delhi, the CBI has arrested a Superintendent of Central Excise at Kundli Division, Sonipat Commissionerate (Haryana), earlier posted as Custodian of the valuable Godown of Customs, IGI Airport.
A case was registered on transfer of FIR from Delhi Police. The case pertains to alleged theft of gold from the Valuable Godowns of Customs at IGI Airport. It was further alleged that in all, about 100 kg of Gold has so far been found to have been pilfered and replaced with non-precious metal in the godown of Customs. The said accused was posted as Custodian of the Valuable Godown of Customs during 2002-03 & 2004. Searches were conducted at his residential premises in Delhi.
The accused was produced before the Designated Court at New Delhi and presently in Police Custody till Sunday.
