Cochin Port celebrates Port Day; Customs promises continued support

NEW DELHI, MAY 28, 2016: THE Cochin Port celebrated ‘Port Day' on 26.05.2016 with a business meeting for the exporters and importers and agencies, among other programmes. Mr Paul Antony, Chairman of the Cochin Port till 16 th May, 2016 was the Chief Guest. He recalled the great efforts in bringing up the Cochin Port to its present situation of achieving Rs. 70 crores of operational profit in the just concluded financial year. He thanked the organizations like Customs, Immigration, Sales Tax and Motor Vehicle department for their co-operation in achieving the targets. He urged all the Port users to make best use of the Port which has excellent connectivity to Europe, Far East, Australia and the Gulf.
Mr Anilkumar, Addl. Commissioner of Customs, Cochin assured full support of Customs in building up business for the Cochin Port. He recalled the various measures implemented by the Customs to ensure ‘ease of doing business'.
On the occasion awards were given to companies for the highest performance in export, import and ship handling and cargo handling categories. The winners included Kochi Refinery for highest volume of cargo handling i.e. Lakshmi Machine Works, Coimbatore and Apollo Tyres in the category of exports, Malayala Manorama and Mathrubhumi in the category of imports.
This was followed by a commemorative session where Shri Paul Antony was felicitated. Awards were given to employees who displayed exceptional performance during the last year.
