Delhi DRI seizes 37 look-alike pistols & revolvers from parcels imported from Paris; Vigil stepped up against possible threat from ISIS operatives in India

By TIOL News Service

NEW DELHI, JAN 21, 2016: WITH the Delhi Police and other intelligence agencies being on high alert against possible bomb threat or terrorist attacks by ISIS operative in the National Capital, the Delhi Zonal Unit of DRI which had stepped up its vigil, today seized 34 look-alike pistols and three look-alike revolvers from three post parcels at the Foreign Post Office in New Delhi.

As per the Press Release issued by the ADG, Mr Sandeep M Bhatnagar, the seized look-alike firearms were imported from Paris and were mis-declared as "Blank Sound Toys". These look alike firearms included Bruni Mod 85 Cal 9 MM Pistols, New Police Cal 9 PAK Pistols and Bruni Mod Revolvers, all made in Italy.

The imported firearms are exact replicas of regular weapons. However, these look alike firearms come with "muzzle constrictors" and can be used in firing blanks. Reportedly, these look alike firearms are in great demand by criminals. Further investigation in the matter under the Customs Act, 1962 is being done by the Delhi Zonal Unit of the DRI.

Even as the DRI continues to investigate the case, it has sounded an alert to all Customs formations across the nation.

It may be recalled that the Delhi Police only two days back arrested four members of ISIS who were allegedly in touch with their akas in Iraq and Syria and were planning certain targets at the Ardh Kumbh in Haridwar and crowd-pulling shopping malls in the NCR. To avert possible threat from ISIS members, the enforcement agencies have stepped up their vigil on key installations and crowded markets in the NCR.
