CESTAT President inaugurates Chandigarh Bench

CHANDIGARH, DEC 01, 2015: THE Chandigarh Bench of the Customs, Excise & Service Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) was today inaugurated at a function held at the S.C.O. 147-148, Sector-17C, Chandigarh. Justice Goda Raghuram, President, CESTAT inaugurated the Bench by unveiling the plaque. Mr. R.K. Singh, Member (Technical) gave the welcome speech. Mr A. Mohan Kumar, Registrar, CESTAT ended the inaugural function with Vote of thanks. After inauguration the President presided the Division Bench and heard the cases.

CESTAT has started regular functioning of its Regional Bench at Chandigarh to hear the appeals arising within the territorial jurisdiction of the State of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and U.T. of Chandigarh. Earlier these appeals were heard at New Delhi. By opening the Regional Bench at Chandigarh the litigants, trade industry and advocates have been benefitted. About 8100 appeals pertaining to the region were transferred from New Delhi and henceforth will be heard at Chandigarh.

The presence of senior officers Mr Satyavir Singh, Chief Commissioner, Mr S.L. Thakur, Principal Commissioner, Mr Kishori Lal, Commissioner of Central Excise, Chandigarh, Mr Atul Handa, Addl. Commissioner, Mr S.S. Kang, Former Vice-President, CESTAT and Eminent Senior Lawyers from Chandigarh Mr G.S. Bhangoo, Mr S.S. Sandhu, Mr Kamaljeet Singh, General Secretary, Indirect Tax Bar Assocaition, New Delhi were among others who attended the function.
