Amendment to GST Bill: FM finds Congress suggestions flawed
By TIOL News Service
NEW DELHI, NOV 25, 2015: SPEAKING at the ASSOCHAM 95th AGM yesterday, the Union Finance Minister, Mr Arun Jaitley, said that although the Govt is willing to reach out to the Opposition for the passage of GST Bill but the amendments proposed by the Congress Party are not practical and would do more damage to the system than any good.
Mr Jaitley termed the suggestion of putting the GST rate in the Constitution Amendment Bill itself as 'preposterous'. He also flayed the Congress Party for making unviable and meaningless suggestion for dispute resolution mechanism. Congress has asked for 25% vote share to the Centre and 75% to the States. Mr Jaitley says that if such a suggestion is accepted it would mean not only flawed GST architecture but also run contrary to the mandate of the Constitution.
