NEW DELHI, OCT 09, 2015: AT the CII-organised Global Tax Summit, the CBDT Chairperson, Ms Anita Kapur, said, "The BEPS final deliverables have come out recently, which advocate consistent tax rules throughout the globe. India is no longer a minority voice in the BEPS project. The tax department needs to gear up to do away with tax avoidance, in line with the international agenda."
She said that easier compliance is being facilitated to all taxpaying segments – small and medium enterprises, large India corporate as well as multi-nationals. The challenge for facilitating the MNCs is particularly great, as they are used to operating in some of the best tax environments.
Delivering his address as the Guest of Honour, Justice Mr V S Sirpurkar, Chairman, Authority for Advance Rulings, stressed that there is a need to educate the masses to take up tax responsibility and create better infrastructure that would enable faster disposal of cases and a reduction in pendency. He congratulated CII on organising events like this, which help bring out a better understanding of tax provisions and train the people to be responsible tax payers.
He further stressed that in many instances, there is an unintended mismatch between the intent of the Government and the verbal interpretation of the law. There should be efforts to fill such gaps by bringing out suitable clarifications/amendments.
