By TIOL News Service

NEW DELHI, AUG 04, 2015: IN a meeting organized by Department of Pharmaceuticals under the chairmanship of Mr Anant Kumar, CII Medical Technology Division (CII-MTD) was among the few participants. CII was represented by Mr Himanshu Baid who is the chairman of CII - MTD and Mr Pavan Choudary Co-Chair of CII- MTD. This meeting focused on Medical Device Industry which is an innovation driven industry which needs to work with medical practitioners as well as paramedical professional in close proximity.

Generally the medical devices have a short span of product life cycle and are frequently upgraded. Every new product which comes into market requires physicians to undergo sufficient trainings.

CII - MTD said that they welcome such code and at the same time recommended that the code should be appropriate for medical device companies and industry practices. It also mentioned that the code in its current form needs more discussion and clarity on research grants or other support funds must be regulated by this code.

Hence, CII -MTD has recommended a distinct marketing practices code for Medical Device Industry which supports Training, Education nd Awareness Programs which will improve patient outcome and they will be pleased to work with Department of Pharmaceuticals in developing an appropriate “Universal Code for Medical Device Marketing Practices (UCMMP)".
