CBI Court sentences Dy Commissioner for 3-yr RI in DA case

CHENNAI, APR 19, 2015 : THE CBI Court has convicted A. Ashokan, Deputy Commissioner of Central Excise for three years of Rigorous Imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case.
The CBI had investigated into a case against A. Ashokan, Deputy Commissioner of Central Excise on the allegations that during the check period 01.9.1989 to 19.01.1998 while working as public servant in various capacities, acquired assets to the tune of Rs.21,40,140/- in his name and in the name of his wife Bharati Ashokan which was disproportionate to the extent of 87.74% against his known sources of income and expenditure incurred by him.
On completion of trial, the Court sentenced him to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.50,000/-. Further, the Court ordered for confiscation of disproportionate asssets of Rs.12,72,961/- to the State. However Bharathi Ashokan was acquitted from the case.
