CBI Court convicts two RBI officials in corruption case

CHENNAI, NOV 23, 2014: THE CBI Court has convicted RBI officials for two years of Rigorous Imprisonment in a case filed by CBI.
The Anti Corruption Branch of CBI, Chennai investigated the case against Mr . Kumar Deshraj (A1), Mr K Sakthi Kumar (A2) Assistant Treasurers of Reserve Bank of India, Chennai and two private persons Mr Vijay Kumar Agarwal (A3) and Mr Manickam (A4) on the allegations that in pursuance of the criminal conspiracy hatched amongst the said accused persons, during the year 2003 Mr Kumar Deshraj (A1) and Mr Sakthi Kumar (A2) who manned the counters meant for exchanging of defective/mutilated currency notes, abused their official position and had exchanged in full the deliberately cut currency notes prepared fraudulently by Mr Vijaykumar Agarwal (A3) and submitted in the exchange counters by Mr Manickam (A4), an employee of Mr Vijay Kumar Agarwal, by ignoring the guidelines and violating the rules of Reserve Bank of India, thus causing a wrongful loss of Rs. 33,81,500/- to Reserve Bank of India.
After investigation of the case, charge sheet was filed and during trial, the accused persons Mr K Sakthikumar (A2) and Mr Vijaykumar Agrawal (A3) expired and the charges against them were abated.
On completion of trial, the accused Mr Kumar Deshraj was convicted and sentenced to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment of two years, and a fine of Rs.15,000/- has also been imposed on him.
