Kolkata Customs seizes gold bars and bangles worth Rs 1.75 Crore

KOLKATA, SEPT 16, 2014: IN two different cases the Kolkata Airport Customs made interesting seizures of gold worth Rs 1.75 Crore. In the first case, the AIU sleuths seized nine pieces of rectangular bars of gold weighing 4604.400 grams from one passenger namely, Mumtaj Bano, aged about 39 years and it was valued at Rs.1,28,00,232/-.
Acting on spot intelligence, the Officers intercepted the passenger who had arrived from Bangkok by Thai Airways Flight, while she was walking through the Green Channel of the Arrival Hall with two pieces of hand baggages. Examination of her baggages was done after observing all procedural formalities which resulted in the recovery of nine pieces of 24 Karat gold bars of foreign origin and rectangular in shape from one of her hand bag. The said gold bars were wrapped with black coloured adhesive tape further wrapped with brown colour paper and then sealed with transparent tape and kept in the brown coloured hand bag of the passenger.
In the second case the officers seized bars and bangles weighing 1,702.200 grams from three passengers. It was valued at Rs 46,47,006/-. The passengers were intercepted when they were walking through the Green Channel. Examination of their baggage was done after observing all procedural formalities. It resulted in the recovery of Gold bars and bangles of 24 Karat Gold weighing 679.5 gms, 537.5 gms and 485.2 gms respectively.
