By TIOL News Service

NEW DELHI, AUG 30, 2014 : MINISTER of State for Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh, felicitated some of the  candidates recommended by the UPSC on the basis of the Civil Services Examination (CSE), 2013 at a brief ceremony here yesterday. Fourteen candidates including a Physically Handicapped allocated IAS, who have occupied high ranks in the CSE-2013 were present. The Minister later handed over Joining Letters to these candidates hailing from Delhi National Capital Region only, who were invited to the function due to shortage of time to include others.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Jitendra Singh said this is the time to encourage these young men and women, own them as part of our Government and motivate them to the service of the people. He said the Indian Civil Services have evolved in the six decades since Independence from the aura of colonial British empire to an Indian milieu of humility. He called upon the young administrators to undo the cynicism of the last few years and rise to the challenges in the service of the common man.

These candidates will soon begin their Foundation Course at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie. On the basis of CSE-2013 UPSC had recommended 1,122 candidates for allocation to service.  Keeping in view the above parameters,  Department of Personnel & Training till date has allocated service to 996 candidates. IAS has been allocated 180 recommended candidates.

UPSC every year conducts the CSE to recommend candidates for allocation to 24 services namely IAS/IPS/IFS and other Group A and Group B services under Central Government. Thereafter, DoPT allocates service  to candidates recommended by UPSC on the basis of their rank, preference, medical status, availability of vacancy in their category at their turn, Physical Requirement & Functional Classification (in case of PH category). Candidates allocated to IAS /IPS/IFS and other Group A services are nominated for Foundation Course (FC) to be conducted at LBSNAA and other Institutes identified by LBSNAA and DoPT.
