Commerce Secretary to lead High-Level Delegation to India Show in HK

NEW DELHI, APR 18, 2014: MR Rajeev Kher, Commerce Secretary, will lead a high-level delegation to Hong Kong coinciding with the ‘India Show' from April 27–30, 2014. India Show being held concurrently with Hong Kong Spring Fair, is being organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and the Consulate General of India in Hong Kong. The “India Show” is an initiative of Government of India, Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

Hong Kong Spring Fair 2014 is Asia's largest spring fair organized by the Global Sources and held at the Asia World Expo. The Hong Kong Spring Fair will have over 2700 Booths and it offers great opportunity to suppliers to reach out to volume buyers from over 114 countries. This is an essential platform to meet face-to-face with key volume buyers from traditional and emerging markets. The exhibition will be showcasing wide range of products from the home products, garment & fashion accessories. Many of the world largest suppliers participate at this exhibition showcasing their wide range of products from different countries. Indian participation at Hong Kong Fair is largest ever comprising of over 200 numbers from industry, government, art and culture. The exhibitors at India Show would get an opportunity to interact with international buyers during the spring fair to source products for their requirement and for networking and building business relationship and do business more effectively.

The sourcing fair will provide Indian exporters an opportunity to forge relationship with Chinese buyers. Hong Kong is a well known and established bridgehead to do business in China.

Additionally, Hong Kong itself is a potential market for the products to be showcased by Indian exporters. India-Hong Kong bilateral trade for the year 2012 stood at USD 20,386 million representing decrease of 11.7% compared to 2011. Exports from India to Hong Kong during this period were worth USD 10,491 million, a decrease of 5.5%. Of this, goods worth USD 9780 million were re-exported to other countries from Hong Kong. Imports from Hong Kong to India totalled USD 9,895 million (17.5% decline). The balance of trade for the year 2012 was in India's favour to the extent of USD 596 million. India's share in Hong Kong's total trade during the year 2012 was 2.16%. Bilateral trade for the period January to September 2013 stood at USD 16,878 million showing a decrease of 6.9% compared to the same period in 2012. Exports from India to Hong Kong during this period were worth USD 8,791 million, an increase of 7.6%, due to increase in exports of natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones, precious metals and leather. The visit by Commerce Secretary to Hong Kong assumes greater significance in the context of enhanced economic and strategic cooperation between the two nations.

The concurrent events that will be held during India Show” in Hong Kong includes: four day exhibition, one to one business meetings, Wine Festival by Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), India Evening with a Fashion Show and performance by Prince Dance Troupe form Odisha, Food Festival and Seminar on “Building Trade Linkages with India”.
