46 Bomb blast since 2000: 7 remain unsolved; Conviction in 9

NEW DELHI, FEB 17, 2012: TO make it clear that the Government and the investigating agencies are sparing no effort to solve every terror case and bring the perpetrators to justice the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a statement in response to the allegations that no action has been taken in order to solve terrorist activities. The statement released gives account of the cases that have been solved and convictions obtained. The list compiles the major terrorist activities since May 2000, which comes up to 46 cases of which seven are yet to be solved, charge-sheets filed in 29 cases; trials are on in 19 cases; and conviction in 9 cases.

The statement also declares that of the 7 “unsolved” cases, four cases are close to being solved.The recent busting of an IM module has revealed that the said module was responsible for the following incidents:

++  13.2.2010 - Bomb blast at German Bakery, Pune

++ 17.4.2010 - Bomb blast near Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

++ 19.9.2010 - Shoot out and blast near Jama Masjid, Delhi

++ 13.7.2011 - Serial bomb blasts in Mumbai 

As regards the German Bakery case, one charge sheet has been filed, one of the accused is facing trial, and six accused have been declared absconders.The ministry also pointed out that some cases are being reinvestigated/further investigated. In this category fall the following cases:

++ 08.09.2006 – Bomb blast in Malegaon, Maharashtra

++ 18.02.2007 – Bomb blast in Samjhauta Express, Haryana

++ 18.05.2007 – Bomb blast in Mecca Masjid, Andhra Pradesh

++ 11.10.2007 – Bomb blast in Ajmer Shariff Dargah, Rajasthan

++ 29.09.2008 – Bomb blast in Malegaon, Maharashtra

++ 29.09.2008 – Bomb blast in Modassa, Gujarat
